Hello everybody! I can’t believe its May already- seriously where has the time gone?! This week I decided I would do another ‘favourites’ post as they are some of my favourite videos to watch on YouTube and some of my favourite blog posts to read; I love seeing the variety and find it so interesting to see what all my favourite bloggers are loving right now. As I’ve had a bit of a gap in my uploads, I thought I’d make the most of it and bring my posts right back down to basics by sharing my April Favourites 2016 with you – enjoy!
The first product I have been really adoring using is the Real Techniques Base Miracle Complexion Sponge, in other words, my favourite beauty blender of all time! This beauty tool is so versatile it just has so many uses! The sponge itself is a vibrant bright orange colour, making it super easy to find in your make up bag and the product is so soft and as light as a feather. It can be used damp for a dewy glow or dry for a full coverage look. I tend to use the flat edge for blending large areas of the face with a dabbing kind of motion, the precision top for covering blemishes and under-eye circles, and the rounded sides for covering areas around the eyes and nose. I have been using this product since around February and am on my third sponge- I tend to purchase one at the start of each month as after each wash the sponge seems to expand and dry harder so I wanted to ensure that I wasn’t just blending dirt into my face. I am really impressed with the value of the product and application as it seamlessly blends foundation and concealer into the skin, making the make-up look really natural and even. It is really easy to use and easy to bring on-the-go for quick touch ups. It produces a radiant, flawless look like no other beauty blender I have ever used before- really recommend it!
My favourite foundation of the month has got to be the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation. The product is very highly regarded by makeup artists and customers alike and right so. Its lavish reputation comes from the indulgent packaging and quality of the product. It comes in a square glass bottle with a black lid which I immediately fell in love with. It comes in 19 gorgeous shades which would be perfect to suit a wide variety of skin tones. My colour is Mount Blanc which is similar to NC15/20 in MAC. The foundation works best for normal, normal-to-dry and dry skin types. It is definitely a medium to buildable coverage foundation that is long lasting with a demi matte finish. The formula is silky smooth and sheer which evenly covers the face, tones under the eyes and instantly covers redness. It brightens and clarifies your skin tone leaving skin hydrated, more luminous and creating a satin finish. A little of this product goes a long way and it isn’t at all cakey, it transmits a weightless texture onto the skin. It applies well and doesn’t sink into pores or fine lines. The only shortfall of the product is that it doesn’t come with a pump, however NARS do sell a pump for a reasonable price which I strongly recommend buying as coupled with the foundation, the product works really well and produces no mess.
A concealer that works really well with the NARS foundation is the Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer. Firstly the product honestly just smells incredible! I mean, you shouldn’t buy a concealer just for the smell but seriously, Boujois have really upped their game with this one! The product looks of a high quality because the glass bottle is square shaped and is made from frosted transparent glass with a shiny silver lid and printed white writing. It instantly makes you think that the product will work well and cover imperfections effortlessly. The only thing I really don’t like about the packaging is how small the applicator wand is. It’s literally about 4cm… but I can get over that because the product itself is implausible. The applicator wand is practically identical to the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer, just smaller in length. I use the lightest shade which is 01 Ivory and it is the perfect shade for my fair skin tone. It has a really luminous, silky smooth formula that applies and blends so nicely. It is really useful because it doesn’t crease, peel or sink into fine lines and it covers up dark circles beautifully creating a healthy glowing complexion. It can be medium or full coverage depending on how well you build it into the skin and I do this using the Real Techniques beauty blender. I just love how brightening it makes the eyes! The product claims to be 24 hours and I’m not entirely sure if this is the case as I never tend to wear make up for this long anyway, but it does certainly last a long time and I have never needed to touch up this concealer when I have worn it. One of my favourite things about it is that it is really hydrating and as I have quite dry skin at the moment, it works really well to restore my skins usual self. The product is a massive dupe of the Terry Densiliss Concealer which is also pretty amazing but this Bourjois one is just so much more affordable.
One new blusher I picked up and have been using almost every day in April was the Benefit Dandelion Blusher. This cute little pick me up is perfect for just-touched sweet cheeks! The powder is a sheer, ballerina-pink colour that instantly adds radiance to any complexion and brightens the overall make up look. The colour is fairly pigmented and subtle enough to add a little hint of flushed pink to cheekbones, however it is also buildable in order to create a more statement look. A small, soft, natural-bristle brush is included with the product making it super easy to sweep across cheeks. The powder consistency applies well and stays put throughout the day. It is a great everyday product which perks up the face to give it a healthy glow. It has a flowery scent but this does not transfer onto the skin- I am fairly sensitive to fragrances and this product does not bother me at all. For those with darker skin tones, this product could work really well as a highlighter/brightener.
A product I had been wanting to get my hands on for ages and finally did was the Rimmel Brow this Way. I purchased the product in clear for use as a styling gel after I had filled in my brows but there were also coloured options of blonde, mid brown and dark brown which I do also want to try! The formula is really long lasting and feels lightweight and comfortable on the eyebrows all day long- you barely even notice it is there. It holds the brows in place making sure no hairs are out of line and it also looks super natural and not stiff. It’s really quick and easy to use and the precision brush defines brows and helps them stay fixed all day long! An added bonus is that it’s small and compact so easy to slip into an everyday make up bag.
My favourite lippy of the month is a new release by Barry M from their Satin Super Slick Lip Paint range. The product is Barry M Lip Paint in 168: Truffle Shuffle. The packaging is really sleek and trendy in a metallic casing and the colour is just divine. The formula has been created using Shea Butter and Vitamin E which means it’s really dewy and moisturising. It has been created in an array of six perfectly on trend shades but my favourite is 168 because it suited my skin tone best. I would describe it to be a soft pink that has been tinged with nude making it a great everyday muted shade for all complexions. It leans toward a more cool toned lippy that conveys a semi-matte finish with a satin sheen. The texture is really soft and the lips don’t feel dried out at all after a day’s wear. It is really easy to apply but I would use a soft baby pink or nude coloured lip liner to prevent it bleeding. My go-to lipstick for a natural everyday make up look!
There have been two skincare favourites this month! The first is the Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturiser. This product honestly smells so fresh and summery- just really fruity and renewed! The lightweight moisturiser revitalises skin to create a healthy, vibrant glow. It instantly melts into your skin and drink’s up all the dryness making skin feel supple straight away. It really wakes you up so I tend to use it every morning after cleansing. The formula is really thin making it glide on really smoothly and is quickly absorbed without leaving a greasy feel. The only downside is that it doesn’t contain an SPF 15 which I usually like my moisturisers to have but nevertheless, this product gets a five star rating from me!
The second skin care item I have been loving is the Liz Earle Gentle Face Exfoliator. The cleanse and polish, instant boost skin tonic and moisturiser have been staples in my skin care routine for longer than I can remember so I thought it was about time I tried a new product and I instantly fell in love with this one! The jojoba beads gently buff away dead skin cells and the other ingredients in the formula help purify and soften the skin. I use this product once or twice a week along with my other products and it leaves my skin glowing. I have had less breakouts since using it and redness is evidently reduced. Skin is never left dry and looks bright and refreshed instantly after one use! I definitely recommend adding this to your skincare schedule!
The last product I quickly wanted to mention was a Nail Polish by Tanya Burr Cosmetics in the colour Duvet Day. Firstly there is a wide array of colours that would be suitable for all occasions but I opted for duvet day which is a pale grey colour with a tinge of pale blue, suitable for everyday wear and matches all outfits. The bottle looks really classy as it is glass and the lid is a shiny gold colour with a cute pink heart printed on the top. The formula is also really great and the consistency of the polish is really thin and glossy. The applicator brush is the perfect size to give full coverage of the nail bed in just three strokes. You could definitely get away with one coat if you wanted a natural pale colour but I personally prefer two coats to intensify the colour and allow the polish to really shine. It applies really nicely and sets really quickly. Quality wise, these are excellent as they have lasted on me for 5-6 days chip-free and still look of a high quality. The product is definitely my fashion staple.
